(October 20, 2023) Seal of approval: Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy, the lone Republican on the Board of Supervisors, endorsed Republican mayoral candidate Janet Wittenbraker in her effort to unseat Mayor Regina Romero in November.
(March 4) Challenger for Christy: A Democrat is now challenging Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy in the District 4 race, the Tucson Sentinel's Jim Nintzel reports. Vanessa Bechtol, vice president of strategic initiatives at Visit Tucson, entered the race to unseat Christy, the lone Republican on the board. She looks forward to working collaboratively to “get things done,” she said.
"I welcome her to the race and look forward to beating her on the way to a third term," Christy said.
(March 24) GOP rival: Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy, the lone Republican on the board of supervisors, has his first Republican challenger for the District 4 seat, county records show. Callie Basham Tippett threw her hat in the ring, but she still has to gather enough signatures by April 1 to get on the ballot, as does Democratic challenger Vanessa Bechtol.
(March 28) The race is on: The new challenger to Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy is hustling to gather signatures before the April 1 deadline, the Tucson Sentinel’s Jim Nintzel reports. Callie Tippett, a Republican who serves on the Vail Unified School District governing board, said she has her “work cut out for me,” but she wants to give voters a choice in who represents them.
(January 22) Questionable timing: Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy is criticizing the timing of County Administrator Jan Lesher’s call for belt-tightening “in light of worsening financial conditions,” the Green Valley News’ Kim Smith writes. During Thursday’s Green Valley Council Board of Representatives meeting, Christy said Lesher’s suggested measures will cause some discomfort, but said they make sense and questioned why they weren’t doing this all along so the county “didn’t get to this position.”
(May 22) Premium problems: Mount Lemmon residents are reporting skyrocketing homeowners insurance bills this year, KOLD’s Bud Foster reports. One resident said that her bill for a 1,500-square-foot cabin increased to $9,000, while others are reporting that their policies have doubled or tripled. Pima County Supervisor Steve Christy, whose district includes Mount Lemmon, said communities all over the country are seeing big bumps in premiums due to catastrophic events in other parts of the country. Christy is seeking approval from the board to ask the state to help stabilize the situation.
